Pleurotoma conoides (Conrad, 1835)

Conorbis conradi (Gregorio, 1890)

Descrizione:

Conrad's original description of Pleurotoma conoides (Plate 17 fig. 17): “Fusiform; spire conical acute; apex obtuse; whorls convex with a few revolving lines, distinct near the suture, obsolete on the wider part of the body whorl and distinct at base; aperture contracted; beak short, straight, slightly grooved longitudinally(1).

The name Conorbis conoides(4) was also used, but as Tomlin pointed out in 1937, this is a mistake (3).

The figure by Conrad and by Harris (1) look completely different from the one for Pleurotoma conoides (Solander, 1766) reported by Edwards (2).
