Conus nisus  (Orbigny, 1847)

In 1817, Dillwyn had already described Conus nisus, but it was a Conus cinereus (Hwass in Bruguière, 1792), so the name was available.

In 1835 Grateloup (3) described a fossil specimen from Dax, which he misidentified as the estant Conus puncticulatus. Realizing the error, Orbigny (1) redefined the figure of Grateloup as Conus nisus.

In 1846, Kiener described another Conus nisus, but due to the earlier definitions of Dillwyn and Orbigny, this species has been redefined as Conus amplus (Röckel & Korn, 1992).
