Conus owenianus                    (Anderson, 1905)

Conus owenianus ynezanus    (Loel & Corey, 1932)

Shell small, conical; spire moderate, conical; whorls flattened, or concave above; suture impressed on young shells; aperture narrow, and straight; surface marked by distant, fine revolving lines.  This species is unlike C. califoruica Gabb in having a  lower and less rounded spire, a less ovate outline, and a narrow straight aperture (1).

Occurrence. — This shell occurs in the Lower Miocene beds
of  Kern River.

Conus owenianus ynezanus is a slender form of Conus owenianus with a somewhat concave bofy-whorl profile. Specimens closely approaching this form are in the collections from the Round Montain silt. The pattern of spiral sculpture is barely discernible on the holotype.
