Monteiroconus sp. cf. strauszi - tessulatus

This specimen is clearly related to Conus strauszi (Kovacs & Vician, 2023), of which it retains all the characteristics. As in Conus strauszi, the coloration consists of broad and reddish flammulae on later spire whorls and shoulder, and spirals of reddish, subrectangular patches on the last whorl. Spire is low and conical, slightly convex and spire whorls are decorated with striae. Shoulder is rounded, with maximum diameter slightly below the shoulder. The opening is moderately narrow, but widens anteriorly more widely than in Conus strauszi.
While in Conus strauszi the last whorl is conical with a weak concavity in the middle, this specimen has a broadly and ventricosely conical last whorl; based on the single specimen shown, it is not possible to determine whether it is a juvenile or an adult, and consequently it is not possible to determine whether the profile of the last whorl is a characteristic of the species or whether it is due to its young age, as the 25 mm height might suggest. In this specimen, as in Conus strauszi, widely spaced spiral cords are present on the lower half.
