Conus (Seminoleconus)  diegelae (Petuch, 1994)

Description (2): Shell of average size for subgenus, elongated, straight-sided, with moderately-developed, pyrami-dal spire; shoulder sharply-angled, carinated; shell smooth and polished, with 8-10 incised spiral threads around anterior tip; aperture narrow throughout; color pattern (when preserved) composed of 5-6 rows of large, rectangular spots.

Holotype: UF66423, Length 36 mm.

Type Locality:Caloosahatchee Fauna, from Miami Canal dredging, 20 miles south of Lake Harbor, Palm Beach County.

Remarks: Conus diegelae is most similar to, and is probably descended from, the older, stratigraphically-lower C. trippae Petuch, 1991 from the Pinecrest Beds (Plate 91, Figures C, D). The new Caloosahatchee species differs in being a smaller, more elongated shell with a more-carinated shoulder and in having larger color spots and fewer rows of spots.

Etymology: Named for Mrs. Phyllis Diegel of West Palm Beach, Florida.

Il Conus diegelae è molto simile al Conus trippae e ne è probabilmente un discendente (1).
