Eoconus dudarensis (Kovacs et al., 2026)
Description(1)
Medium-sized, elongate shell, protoconch unknown, teleoconch of 8 whorls. Spire elevated, conical with gradate outline, spire angle 65°, suture shallow. First 5 whorls has angulate, beaded shoulder. Sutural ramp bearing narrow, smooth subsutural band, and two strong spiral cords. Last whorl 82% of total height, elongate conical, outline straight, smooth with moderately strong, widely spaced spiral ridges on lower third. Aperture narrow, filled with sediments. Subsutural flexure shallow, asymmetrically curved.
Remarks(1)
Eoconus dudarensis sp. nov. is characterized by its elongate, slender shell which differs from the widespread E. diversiformis and E. deperditus. The more closely allied form is Eoconus deperditus, however, it has broader shell with W/L ~47-48%, while E. dudarensis sp. nov. displays ratio of 40.4%. Moreover, Eoconus deperditus differs by bearing numerous finer spiral
threads on sutural ramp. The W/L ratio (40%) of the Conus (Leptoconus) deperditus var. specimens described by Strausz (1966: 72, 141, text-fig. 19) from Dudar corresponds to that of Eoconus dudarensis sp. nov., but they had lower spire, and according to Strausz, their sculpture agreed with that of E. deperditus. These specimens probably represent a transitional form
between Eoconus deperditus and E. dudarensis sp. Nov.
Conus deperditus var. postalensis De Gregorio, 1894 (Lutetian, N Italy) is similar in size, but differs by its slightly broader shell and larger spire angle (De Gregorio 1894b, pl. 6, fig. 184), this material was synonymized under Eoconus diversiformis by Malaroda (1954).
