Conus (Chelyconus) johannae (Hoernes & Auinger, 1879)
Descrizione
e caratteristiche:
La forma in generale ricorda quella del Conus avellana, tranne che per le spire che formano un apice molto più elevato. La colorazione, che permette di distinguere facilmente questa specie, consiste in 15-16 file trasversali di macchie quadrangolari abbastanza grandi e di colore bruno-giallastro; gli spazi tra le macchie hanno dimensioni simili.
This rare species is highly reminiscent of Lautoconus subraristriatus (Pereira da Costa, 1866) in overall shape and size and could be easily confused with the widespread species. Nevertheless, the tuberculate keel and prominent striae on the early spire of C. johannae and its conspicuous colour pattern allow a clear separation. The colour pattern is unique within Paratethyan Conidae. The record of this species from the Croatian Karlovac-Glina Basin by Eremija (1959) is based on a misidentification (2).
Distribuzione:
Conus johnannae and Conus ponderosulcatus are very similar species, but they differ in some aspects: compared to C. ponderosulcatus, C. johannae is wider at the shoulder and has a higher whorl, while C. ponderosulcatus has a convex profile of the last whorl as it approaches the shoulder.
